During her PhD at the Università degli Studi di Milano and one year of post-doc fellowship at University College of London, UCL London, Benedetta Demartini developed two main lines of research: 1) Emotional and cognitive aspects of functional neurological disorders. This work has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals, such as Neurology, the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry and the Journal of Neurology; 2) Sense of body ownership and affective touch in active and recovered patients with anorexia nervosa. This research line is still in progress, with many papers in preparation.
Her scientific training and interests include but are not limited to neuropsychiatry, general psychiatry, cognitive neuroscience, and psychophysiology.
She also has a clinical background as a psychiatric currently working at the neuropsychiatric outpatient clinic of San Paolo Hospital in Milano. Her clinical activity has been focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of functional neurological symptoms and psychiatric comorbidities of neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Parkinsonian syndromes, Dystonia and other Movement Disorders.
